Well, I’ve been on my Tumblr page and I’ve not added anything for 6 month. Which is clearly rubbish. In between, lots of new and exciting things have happened, not least moving into a new house! Mac-wise, there are a few new improvements into the mix, which will start taking shape in the new office: Dual 1.8Ghz Powermac G5, with the hard drive updated to 1 x 500Gb and a second 1Tb. Maxed out with 4Gb RAM. A couple of 1Tb Western Digital external drives. Aperture 2 & iWork now up and running. I’ll be writing on getting from A to B in posts over the coming week using my trusty Powerbook G4 (which has also been upgraded now) and through MarsEdit - what I am using now! In short, watch this space!
Super Duper.
What could I possibly tell you about it that you don’t already know. In short, if you use a Mac, this is the most important program you should own. We all know backing up data, photos and documents to say but a few is essential, and Time Machine does an admirable job but it does have it’s limitations.
For example, as I found out a couple of months ago, Time Machine isn’t always enough.
Super Duper takes a snapshot of your entire hard disk and creates a bootable backup. You can then fire up your machine using Super Duper as the start up disk. So if your machine crashes and all seems lost, then with Super Duper, hereinafter SUDU, you will have a complete back up of your machine, which you can then add seperate files to from Time Machine.
If you’re feeling generous, and I wasn’t until I used the paid for service, you can create a smart update, which only changes those files you updated since the last backup onto your SUDU backup.
Have a look over at the website, download yourself a copy and give it a try, I promise you won’t be disappointed.
While it isn’t even June yet, I think I’ve found my Christmas present already.
Through scouring the likes of Setups & Spaces, iDesk and Simple Desks, time and time again, I see the same laptop display stand, the mStand.
It is a solid piece of sandblasted aluminium, designed to fit 15” and 17” Macbook Pros (though I’m sure my 15” PowerBook will work fine.
Here’s a little taster image but the main site (and reviews) can be found here at raindesigninc
